saudade: noun, (Portuguese).
A profound longing for something that once was and may never be again. The yearning to recall a dream, the details of which are lost upon waking. Or the aching realization at the first sign of autumn that time has vanished again and we will never be either as young or as old as we are now. Saudade is standing on the shoreline where the waves crash, crash, crash, leaving a frothy afterwards. And as the constellation of bubbles vanishes, it becomes clear that there will never be another kaleidoscopic moment like this one. That this very life is made up of froth and bubbles, seasons and seconds. And that we are at once as transient and as permanent as the stars.
belle: adjective, (French).
